Changing Minds, Challenging Stereotypes

Year 4 took part in an engaging workshop exploring gender stereotypes, respect and equality.

Year 4 participated in a thoughtful and age-appropriate workshop designed to help pupils understand gender stereotypes and why everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. Through discussions and interactive activities, the children explored how stereotypes can influence the way people think and behave, and considered why it is important to challenge unfair assumptions about what boys and girls can or should do. The workshop also introduced the concept of misogyny in an age-appropriate way, helping pupils recognise that everyone deserves equal respect regardless of their gender. The children shared their ideas confidently, listened carefully to one another and demonstrated maturity throughout.

To finish the workshop, each child wrote down a gender stereotype they wanted to challenge before scrunching it into a ball or ripping it up, symbolising their commitment to rejecting unfair stereotypes. It was a powerful and memorable way to end the session, reinforcing our school values of respect, inclusion and equality while encouraging pupils to become thoughtful, empathetic members of their community.

A huge thank you to Jessica and David, who generously gave up their time to lead this engaging and thought-provoking workshop. Their enthusiasm and expertise helped make the session both meaningful and memorable for our Year 4 pupils.
