Author Joseph Elliott Launches New Book During School Visit

We had the incredible honour of welcoming author Joseph Elliott to our school on the official release day of his brand-new book, Nora and the Map of Mayhem. The timing couldn’t have been more exciting, as pupils were among the very first in the country to hear the opening chapter read aloud by the author himself.

Known for his critically acclaimed Shadow Skye trilogy and for playing pirate 'Cook' in the BAFTA-winning CBeebies series Swashbuckle, Joseph spoke to pupils about his path to becoming an actor and writer, the importance of perseverance and how he brings fantastical worlds to life. His visit was filled with laughter, inspiration and a deep dive into the creative process.

During a special assembly, Joseph treated us to a live reading from Nora and the Map of Mayhem, a thrilling new adventure packed with mystery, magic, and unexpected twists. The story follows brave and curious Nora as she discovers a living map that doesn’t just show the way—but creates it.

“The map pulsed beneath Nora’s fingertips, the ink shifting like river currents. A glowing path appeared, pointing not north, south, east, or west—but straight into the unknown.”

Pupils asked thoughtful questions about the characters, the challenges of writing a new series and how Joseph comes up with his imaginative ideas. Signed copies of the book flew off the shelves and excitement buzzed through the halls all day long.

We’re so grateful to Joseph Elliott for choosing to launch Nora and the Map of Mayhem with us—it was a magical moment we won’t soon forget!
