Keep up to date with what's happening in school.
The school council embarked on an enlightening journey to the heart of British governance with a visit to the Houses of Parliament yesterday. We witnessed the importance of decision-making and the workings of democracy.
We had the chance to go into the House of Commons and watch a live debate. We also had a tour of Parliament and had a workshop all about how to vote and talked about the role of an MP. It was a great day and it made us feel proud to know that we make a difference, knowing that even small actions can have a big impact!
Reception have been exploring the prehistoric world of dinosaurs! From towering T-rexes to swift Velociraptors. We hosted a surprise 'Jurassic World Exhibition' on Friday to showcase all of our work. We have been writing exciting stories about dinosaurs and making fossils out of clay. We have had great fun learning all the dinosaur names and all the different facts about endangered and extinct animals!
"Did you know that a pterodactyl is not a dinosaur, it is a flying reptile?" - Nico
"Some dinosaurs ate plants, some meat and some ate both" - Larry F
"A fossil can be a plant or an animal" - Mi'Nya
Silver Class had some caterpillar visitors this half term and have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Today the butterflies were released into the nursery garden and we were very excited to see them fly away.
We have been lucky enough to use some of the funds raised by the RFC to buy outdoor table tennis tables for the playground. The children have all been very excited about the new additions and the tables have been in constant use during playtime and lunchtimes.
Yesterday, the Year 5 students embarked on an exciting journey into the realm of physics through a captivating science workshop: building catapults out of simple materials like lollipop sticks, rubber bands, pompoms and wooden spoons. They delved into the principles of force, motion and energy, all whilst eagerly planning and constructing their miniature siege weapons. With each snap of a rubber band and careful placement of a pom pom, the children explored tension, potential energy and projectile motion. Collaborative problem-solving and creative thinking were on full display as they experimented with different designs and configurations, learning through trial and error. Many thanks to Karen, one of our parents, for providing such a great experience!
In a serendipitous twist, the excitement of the science workshop was complemented by a special visit from acclaimed author Tony Bradman, who captivated year 5 with tales of adventure and heroism from his novel 'Viking Boy'. Turquoise and Ruby classes were transported to a world of Norse mythology and Viking lore, igniting their imaginations with vivid descriptions of epic battles and daring escapades. The children were lucky to ask questions and to have a sneak preview of Tony's new books!
Everyone involved from Year 1 to Year 6 really enjoyed the cross country event and luckily the rain held off for the day.
