We look forward to welcoming our new starters in September 2024. Please check your child's start dates on Applicaa Admissions + carefully. You can find the Silver Class Transition Booklet here.

Have a wonderful Summer!

The themes have been chosen to ensure that there is opportunity to cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Although specific areas of the curriculum have been highlighted, we plan for all areas to enable the children to experience a variety of play-based activities during their time in Nursery.

If you have any queries, please contact the Class Teacher or the Learning and Teaching Leader for this phase, Amy Carvall, or email the Nursery team:

Please read our half termly curriculum letters for more information.

Summer 2: What's Up There? (Space)

Silver Class have been travelling to the moon with Baby Bear from the story, 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. We have been enjoying a picnic with the owl who we met on the way!

Silver Class have also been learning lots of facts about space.

"There are 8 planets in the solar system." Nico

"Earth is called the Goldilocks planet because it is not too hot and not too cold,

it is just right!" Otis and Louis

"Mercury is the planet closest to the sun." Echo

"Jupiter is the biggest planet." Elise

"Mars is the red planet." Lola

"The tallest mountain/volcano is on Mars and is called, Olympus Mons." Indra

"Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon." Teddy

Summer 1: Under the Sea

Silver Class have had an amazing start to the summer term, sharing with 'The Rainbow Fish' and learning about hermit crabs, when reading 'Sharing a Shell'.

"The Rainbow Fish didn't want to share his shiny scales, but then he did and he was happy." Indra

"If you share your toys, you will feel happy." Zachariah

"The hermit crab needed to find a shell to keep him safe." Nova

"Then the anemone and the bristle worm shared his shell too." Ishana

"Crabs have 10 legs." Louis

We have had some visitors to Silver Class. Tiny caterpillars are in our classroom and now they are beginning to change. What is going to happen?

"The caterpillars are going to make a cocoon, which is also called a chrysalis or a pupa." Indra

"Metamorphosis means it's changing." Lola

"The cocoon will be like a 'j'". Camille

"It's the life cycle. A tiny egg on a leaf, a caterpillar, a cocoon, then a beautiful butterfly." Otis

Our caterpillars have changed. They have turned into chrysalises and are now in our butterfly net!

"They will change soon." Emma

"It's a metamorphosis." Zachariah

"There are 5 chrysalises." Mia

And today is the day that we have been waiting for. Our butterflies have started to emerge from their chrysalises!

"It's called a life cycle" Nova

"The butterflies have hatched out of the cocoons." Taheilia

"We've got 4 butterflies and 1 chrysalis." Funmilola

"They are eating orange and banana and sugar water." Nico

And they have flown away...

"The butterflies need lots of outside to be free." Teddy

"They are flying away." Rory

Spring 2: Jurassic Journey

Silver Class have been given a new job to do this half term. We are all palaeontologists - looking for dinosaur fossils! We have a fossil station in our dinosaur role play area and we have been very busy brushing the sand away to find fossils and bones. We then clean them and take them away to analyse.

To make our dinosaurs feel at home, we built a volcano. We collected boxes from our workshop area, then covered them in Modroc and when we had a volcano shape, we painted it. We were very surprised when the volcano erupted and lava came flowing out!

Happy World Book Day everyone. We had a great day dressed as our favourite characters. Can you see which books we are from?

Spring 1: Passport around the world

Silver Class have made a fantastic start to 2024, travelling around London in their amazing 450 bus, with Paddington Bear! The children buy their tickets and oyster cards at the travel desk, then climb aboard.

Paddington went on a grand tour of London with Silver Class, looking at the sites, then over the next few weeks we are going to travel around the world, choosing places to visit by looking at the world map at the front of the bus. We are so excited.

Who likes eating marmalade sandwiches?

We made some delicious marmalade sandwiches for Paddington. He was very happy and put some of them under his hat and then he let us eat the rest of them for our snack.

"Paddington keeps marmalade under his hat." Teison

"We made sandwiches." Jennifer

"We got bread and spread butter." Lola

"We put on the marmalade. It's orange." Julian

What was the weather like today?

"It is very windy today."

Julian

" I made a kite."

Taheilia

"The kites are flying in the air."

Teison

Autumn 2: Autumn is all around

This half term, we are very excited to have discovered that the Gruffalo and all the characters from the book, have moved into the Nursery. Although we will be focussing on different stories every week, we are keeping the Gruffalo story going, in our role play area.

We have been learning to write our name and doing lots of counting, especially in the outside area, where we have been counting our cars and seeing which number our cars can land on when they travel down the ramp.

We were also amazed to see a toad in our nursery garden!

As autumn is all around us, we have learnt a new song, which can be sung to the tune of, 'London Bridge is falling down':

Autumn leaves are falling down,

Falling down, falling down,

Autumn leaves are falling down,

Leaves are falling.

Red and orange, yellow and gold,

Yellow and gold, yellow and gold,

Red and orange, yellow and gold,

Leaves are falling.

Autumn 1: Getting to know each other

In Nursery we have been having an exciting time, making new friends and settling in. We have been encouraging and supporting the children to form positive relationships with their peers and with the adults that will be working with them this year. Silver Class have been exploring their new surroundings and engaging in activities from all areas of the Foundation Stage curriculum.

Take a look at what we have been doing.

Silver Class have been listening to some of Tina Turner's music for Black History Month. We were amazed that she sang a song about us called, ‘The Best’. We have all been singing along to the lyrics – ‘Silver the best, better than all the rest’.

"Silver's the best and better than all the rest"
Otis B

"Tina Turner sang a song all about us"

Louis

"We are the best"

Jax

"Silver our tiger is the best too"
