What is the Rockmount Learning kitchen?
At Rockmount Primary School, we believe that learning to cook is a vital life skill. As a Food Flagship school, food is at the heart of our curriculum and our pupils already grow food in our Edible Playground. This project aims to raise funds to build our own learning kitchen so that we can extend teaching about food and cooking for our children and the local community.
How will a learning kitchen benefit the school?
A learning kitchen will increase the opportunities to:
Such a learning space will help the school teach more children and adults to cook, support families to eat good food, promote the reduction of childhood obesity and address mental health issues.
How much do we need to raise?
Our aim is to raise a grand total of:
£60,000
Our story so far
So far, through the dedicated efforts of the school community and from grants, the local education authority and the school, we have managed to raise a fantastic:
£47,000
Thank you to everyone who voted for the Rockmount Learning Kitchen. We came in second place and received a £2000 donation from Tesco Bags of Help.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic our kitchen project had to be put on hold. We have now managed to get new quotes for the build and are ready to pick up our journey again.
The room that will be used for the learning kitchen has now been cleared out and over the next few weeks the kitchen units and appliances will be delivered ready for the work to start in the Easter holidays!
