All Can Achieve

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

In Nursery and Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum.

The statutory framework can be viewed here:

Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Other useful information can be found in the following document, which is a non-statutory

curriculum guide for the EYFS: Development Matters

We incorporate the 7 areas of learning within our half termly topics. All of our exciting and challenging learning opportunities are based on these topics, which can be seen on the Nursery and Reception curriculum maps below.

Curriculum letters are sent home to parents and carers every half term. These give you information about important dates, special occasions, details of what your child will be learning within the half termly topics, as well as ways to support your child at home.

The children also have a home/school journal, where they are free to draw or write about anything that interests them. They may want to share a special occasion that they have experienced or they may want to add a leaflet, map or photo of a place that they have visited. The children can then share their journal with a member of staff once a week.

There is an expectation during child-initiated sessions, that the children will complete at least one piece of guided writing every week. On a daily basis, the children will engage in free writing or mark making activities as well as number or shape, space and measure activities and challenges. Learning takes place through carefully planned play based activities. Children can explore the various small world activities, role play areas as well as the whole wealth of topic based experiences provided both inside and outside the classroom.
