Spring Term

STEM Week - Parent Visitor

During STEM Week, the children in Sapphire class were very lucky to have a visit from a parent who works within the STEM industry. The children were very engaged and learnt a lot about how technology plays a big part in understanding new medicine.

DT - Weather Stations

In DT, the children had a very exciting task of designing and creating their very own weather stations. The children created their own, Wind Socks, Rain Gauge, Anemometer and Wind Vane. They then evaluated their designs and discussed how they can improve their weather stations next time.

Stone Age Workshop

It has been a busy and exciting half term learning about the Stone Age. To immerse the children in their learning they all took part in a Stone Age workshop. They learnt about Stone Age crafts and how they would survive in the wild. We also tried our hand at sewing different stitches using felt. It was a memorable day!!

Outdoor Learning

This term, the children in Year 3, had the opportunity to advance their knowledge about ‘Weather’.

The children took part in an outdoor learning focusing on Climate Change and the effects of Global Warming. They learnt about trees and why they are so important for us and our Planet. They also learnt about the importance of recycling and how that helps our Planet.

Author Visit

This half term, Year 3, were very lucky to have a visit from the author, Karen Owen! Karen shared with us her journey of becoming an author. She inspired us my reminding us that we can all be writers.

Science

Year 3, had lots of fun this half term learning about 'Animals Including Humans'. We were able to identify that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. We had a lot of fun creating our own bionic hand using paper (to represent the skin), straws (to represent the bones) and string (to represent the tendons) to show how our hand works.

Autumn Term

Science Museum Trip

Year 3, went on an exciting visit to the Science Museum to help enrich their learning in science. We spent some time in an interactive gallery, learning through play, the forces that are around us. In the afternoon, we took part in a workshop called 'Feel the Force'. This interactive workshop demonstrated clearly the differences forces around us and how they work. We also spent some time exploring the museum too.

West Norwood Picture House

Year 3 enjoyed a trip to West Norwood Picture House. As part of the 'Into Film Festival' we watched 'The Little Mermaid'. The children will be writing a film review based on the film, which will be entered into a competition run by Into Film Festival.

Black History Month

Year 3 had fun learning all about Nicola Adams. We wrote an autobiography about her life and her achievements. We also took part in a special boxing class which the children really enjoyed.

Cultural Diversity Day

Year 3, enjoyed dressing up for Cultural Diversity Day. We enjoyed learning about the diverse cultures in our class.
