All Can Achieve

Swimming

Swimming and Water Safety

Physical education also encompasses swimming and water safety. The school's aim is for all children, by the time they reach Year 6, to swim competently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres. Pupils will be taught to use a range of strokes effectively in order to keep themselves safe in the water, including how to perform safe self-rescue in a variety of water-based situations.

Our swimming lessons take place at Crystal Palace Leisure Centre for pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6. The sessions are for 5 weeks and last for 1 hour. The children are streamed dependent on ability by the pool instructor: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

There is a requirement that schools publish how many pupils within their year 6 cohort are meeting the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
