  • A fond farewell to Val

    Wed 06 Jul 2016
She has helped generations of children across the road safely and now, after 42 years of outdoor school patrol in all weathers, Val is storing away her lollipop stick . Pupils and staff at Rockmount are now saying a fond farewell to Val who has decided to retire. We would like to thank Val for all her hard work and devoted service and wish her the very best.
  • World Book Day 2016

    Tue 05 Jul 2016

Yet again, Rockmount excelled in their efforts to celebrate World Book Day!

The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing their favourite books with their classmates. As always the children and staff were very creative in their ideas for dressing up as a favourite book character.

  • Rockmount is now a Lead Food Flagship School!

    Tue 05 Jul 2016

In July 2014, Croydon and Lambeth were awarded “Flagship Food Borough” status. This was part of a new initiative created by the Mayor, the Greater London Authority and the DfE. The reasons for this initiative are:

    ·         To address concerns around the increasing evidence of obesity and the onset of Type 2 diabetes in the population

    ·         To increase the general health and achievement of children and young people by using schools as a starting point to change the culture of food within the borough

The ‘Croydon School Food Plan’ was created to support schools with this initiative and schools were invited to apply to become Flagship Schools. These Flagship Schools will be supported to become exemplars of good practice in relation to food and healthy lifestyles in schools. The expectation will be that they pilot, model and share best practice with other schools across the Greater London Authority

At Rockmount we are very aware of the strong link between nutrition, health and academic performance and we are committed to educating our school community in how to live healthy, balanced lifestyles in order to maximise learning opportunities throughout life.

We were thrilled to learn that Rockmount Primary School has been selected to become a Lead Food Flagship School.

We are one of only 2 Croydon primary schools chosen for this honour which is due to the commitment we have already shown to improving the health, fitness and academic achievement of our pupils.

We are now looking forward to working with the Croydon Healthy Schools Team to develop an action plan for the coming year. We will share the exciting developments with you in the near future

  • Rockmount raise over £2,000 for the NSPCC!

    Tue 05 Jul 2016
The NSPCC came in to Rockmount last month to tell the children about the vital work they do to help thousands of children who need help due to abuse which they sadly receive.  We were asked if we could help raise money for the NSPCC to continue their valued work.  This involved a sponsored event which took place during PE lessons.  Every class participated and all did different events from Danceathons to running to skipping.  We were amazed at how generous everyone has been and proudly announce that we raised a staggering £2,245.64 with money still coming in.  We would like to thank all children for participating and for the parents and carers who sponsored them.  Well done everyone!

  • Cross Country at Lloyd Park

    Tue 05 Jul 2016
Children from Years 3&4 and 5&6 were put through their paces when they participated in a cross country event for Croydon Schools at Lloyd Park. The children ran 1200 metres - uphill and downhill! They all made a fantastic effort and spirits were high - despite the rain!
